Dry Mix Mortar Packaging: A Practical Guide for 20kg-40kg Bags

Picking the right bag for dry mix products—whether it’s Tile Adhesive, Wall Putty, Plaster, or specialized Grout—isn’t just about price. Each material, from Gypsum Powder to Floor Leveling Compounds, has different density and moisture requirements. It affects how fast you fill, what equipment you need, and how your brand looks on the shelf. We’ve been making these bags for over 20 years, and we’ve seen customers make every mistake in the book. Here’s what actually matters.

The Six Bag Types

Bag Type Price Equipment Required Best For
Open-mouth PP sewn bag with liner Lowest None / Sewing Machine Tight budgets, basic operations
PP sewn valve bag with lamination Low Valve filler Dust control on a budget
PP block bottom valve bag(AD star Bag) Medium Valve filler Most industrial applications
Paper bag with film(Paper+film+Paper) Med-High Valve filler Moisture-sensitive products
3-4 Layer kraft paper bag High Valve filler Sustainability-focused brands
PP block bottom valve bag with inner PE&Paper liner High Valve filler Premium branding & marketing

What You Need to Know About Each Type

1. Open-Mouth Sewn Bag with liner

The cheapest option out there. You fill it, then sew the top shut. No special equipment needed—just a sewing machine or even manual stitching. More dust during the filling process compared to valve bags.

Pick this if: You have limited budget for equipment, or you're okay with handling the dust during filling.

2. PP Sewn Bottom Valve Bag with lamination

You fill through the valve at the top—when the powder inside pushes against the valve after filling, it seals automatically.. It keeps dust down better than open-mouth, but you still need a valve filling machine.

Pick this if: You want cleaner operations but can’t afford the step up to block bottom valve bags.

3. PP Block Bottom Valve Bag (AD Star Bag)

This is what most of our customers end up choosing. The woven polypropylene material is strong—It can perfectly withstand a weight of 50 kg without breaking.

  • An inner paper liner for moisture protection
  • A PE film layer for extra barrier
Pick this if: You want the standard, reliable workhorse. This is what 70% of our orders end up being.

4. Paper Bag (2-Layer Kraft + 1 PE Film)

Two layers of kraft paper with a thin PE film sandwiched in between. The outside looks like paper; the inside keeps moisture out. It’s a middle ground—you get the paper aesthetic without sacrificing moisture protection.

Pick this if: Your product needs to stay dry, but your customers associate plastic with “cheap.”

5. 3-4 Layer Kraft Paper Bag

Pure paper. No plastic at all. 3-4 layers of kraft paper, fully biodegradable. Popular in Europe and North America where sustainability claims get scrutinized.

Pick this if: Green credentials are central to your brand, or your target market requires biodegradable packaging.

6. Woven Valve Bag with Premium Printing

Same durable woven material, but with high-quality color printing on the outside. This is for when you want your bag to do marketing work on the shelf.

Pick this if: You’re selling a premium product or need your brand to stand out.

Environmental Notes

  • 3-4 Layer kraft paper: Fully biodegradable, but costs more.
  • Woven (PP/PE): Recyclable in most areas, very durable.
  • Paper + PE composite: Check local recycling rules—the PE layer complications things.
